I’m Yanting Zuo. In 2022 I started My Gem Closet with my own credit card and a love of crystals that carried me through grief and illness. Everything here is something I’ve chosen, or practise myself.

My story
“I think of each of us as a light. By sharing mine, I hope you can see a little more of yourself.”
I grew up among my family’s jade and crystals, and the offerings at our Buddhist temple; amethyst was the first stone I loved. At 13 I was diagnosed with an illness that kept me from living like others for 22 years. After my father died, I lost my way, and in 2020 I came to Manchester with almost nothing. In the summer of 2022, sitting by an old window at the temple where I volunteered, I decided to start again with the crystals that had helped me find myself. My Gem Closet literally started in a closet, and I still run it from my flat in Manchester.
